One Backpack for 10 Nights in Europe?

Yes, one backpack for 10 nights in Oslo, Rome, and Barcelona.  It happens to be my awesome Venture Pal lightweight backpack, which I am a huge fan of.  Incredibly light, incredibly versatile.  The Wanderer and I had 6 one-way budget flights with different airlines, so assuming $50 per bag, that’s a savings of $300 per person.  I’ve talked all about the benefits of traveling light, and given strategies to save space and weight, but this one was definitely my biggest (or smallest) feat.

I’m still in awe of the people who built the pyramids of Teotihuacan.  When I was standing on top of the Pyramid of the Moon and looking out along the avenue of the dead, I could see just how much work went into the development.  The fact that the pyramids have survived over 1,800 years speaks to how well they were planned for and constructed.  There’s very little that can still have an impact that far into the future.  I’m left contemplating how small a piece of the world I am, and how thankful I am for these opportunities.

St. Thomas and St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands

The most impactful part of the trip was driving around the island and learning about how the Islanders live.  The beach-side homes and resorts are a huge contrast.  Seeing the metal shacks, one can only wonder how they would survive a hurricane.  I came home feeling more thankful for what I have and for the opportunities I’ve seized.
